Poor Man’s Ballistics

Over the past weekend I had the opportunity to do some ballistics testing with some various loads that I carry in my pistols.

Tested 4 loads, 3 Hornady XTP in .45 ACP, 9mm and .38 Special, and a .38 Special Spear GoldDot

The test bed was a bunch of milk jugs filled with water lined up along a picnic table bench and then shot from about 7 yards. Hardly a unique idea, but it works

Here’s the results :

Definitely going to stick with +P rounds in the snubby which is my primary carry gun these days. To me, they have as much felt recoil as 158 grain Sellior & Bellot ammo, which is no big deal for my meat hooks to handle. I would like to try either some 158 grain +P Buffalo Bore, or the 135 grain +P Spear GoldDot Short Barrel and see how those perform.
